Your Windows 7 Launch Party
Thu, Oct 22, 2009 10:16 AM

Windows 7 launched today. The OS itself seems a very solid reworking of Vista, at last delivering an OS worthy of replacing XP.

But then there are the launch parties.

Your launch parties.

That's right: "your".

It's not like Microsoft isn't throwing a party of their own. Apparently they are, and it's a big one.

And in a world where Steve jobs rolls out new products with Oprah and Bono, you'd think Microsoft might choose to leave it at that.

But apparently in honor of Halloween, Microsoft has instead chosen to horrify us with the creepiest, most cringe-worthy launch ever.

You see, someone at Microsoft (who probably won't have a job after today) had the "brilliant" idea that thousands of consumers would want to host their own launch parties for Windows 7 in their homes.

Yes, you read that correctly.

They even set up a site to get you going: houseparty.com

But that's not the lame part.

No, really, it gets worse.

Much worse.

Someone at Microsoft (perhaps the same soon-to-be-another-unemployment-statistic person) decided that maybe some of the folks who want to host "house parties" for Win7 may not know just how to go about it.

So they made a video.

No, really.

They made a tutorial video on how to throw a party.

I kid you not.

I take back everything I said yesterday about lame marketing campaigns. This one wins the Lifetime Achievement Award for Lameness in Marketing.

Beyond words, it simply must be experienced to be appreciated. Click, if you dare:

Happy Halloween.
